The latest document submitted by chip giant Nvidia to the US SEC shows that restrictions on the sale of some Nvidia products to markets such as China in the United States took effect on October 23rd. The latest file from NVIDIA shows that the original 30 day window period for the most powerful AI chips, A800/H800/L40S, has been cancelled, but the L40 and RTX 4090 chip processors have retained the original 30 day window period.
On October 18th, NVIDIA submitted a document to the SEC providing product details related to the new restrictions on chip sales in the United States, including but not limited to A100, A800, H100, H800, L40, L40S, and RTX 4090 products.
Nvidia stated, "Given the strong demand for the company's products globally, it is expected that the acceleration of licensing requirements will not have a short-term substantial impact on financial performance
Since the beginning of this year, Nvidia's stock price has risen by nearly 200%. The company's chip products have been boosted by strong demand for artificial intelligence big models, and many Chinese internet technology companies have purchased a large number of Nvidia chips for AI big model training. These chips have significantly faster training speed than similar products in the market.
The chips required for AI large models are mainly used for training and reasoning. On October 24th, Liu Qingfeng, Chairman of iFLYTEK, said in an interview with the media, "Compared to other platforms, inference chips are relatively simple. Some companies in our country have already developed AI chips for inference, but the AI chips used for training are still very challenging for us. For example, models that can be trained in a month using mature Nvidia platforms may take three months to complete using other platforms, Liu Qingfeng emphasized that "this step must be taken".
In his view, domestic enterprises need to create autonomous and controllable large models, which is like "in the process of rapid running, others use the most luxurious weapons, while you are fighting, refining weapons, and moving forward".
