On February 26th, the AI-RAN Alliance was established at the 2024 World Mobile Congress (MWC 2024). The founding members include Amazon Cloud Technology, Arm, DeepSig, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, Northeastern University, Nvidia, Samsung Electronics, SoftBank, and T-Mobile.
According to NVIDIA, this new collaborative project aims to integrate AI into cellular technology to further advance the development of wireless access network (RAN) technology and mobile networks. The mission of the alliance is to improve mobile network efficiency, reduce power consumption, and transform existing infrastructure, laying the foundation for telecommunications companies to leverage AI to unleash new business opportunities with the help of 5G and 6G.
Alliance members will leverage their technical expertise and leadership to focus on advancing the development of three major research and innovation areas: utilizing AI to enhance RAN capabilities, thereby improving spectrum efficiency; Integrate AI and RAN processes to more effectively utilize infrastructure and create AI driven revenue opportunities; Deploy AI services at the network edge through RAN to improve operational efficiency and provide new services for mobile users.
