The annual "Hon Hai Technology Day" was held on October 18th, and NVIDIA founder Huang Renxun and Hon Hai chairman Liu Yangwei appeared on the same stage, signaling the strengthening of cooperation between the two sides.
Huang Renxun and Liu Yangwei boarded the electric vehicle (Model B) manufactured by Hon Hai, highlighting Hon Hai's development plan for electric vehicles in recent years. Huang Renxun also stated that the Model B is very beautiful and is a perfect electric vehicle for young couples.
Why did Huang Renxun attend the Hon Hai event? The reasons may include two points: firstly, market sources have revealed that Hon Hai has taken the chip module order for NVIDIA's latest AI chip GH200 and L40/L40S products, both of which will be exclusively supplied; Secondly, NVIDIA announced that it is planning to jointly build an "AI factory" with Hon Hai to strengthen Hon Hai's "car manufacturing" capabilities in various aspects.
Nvidia just unveiled the GH 200 chip in May this year, which is considered the world's most powerful AI chip. At the same time, this new product underwent a storage performance upgrade on August 8th, using HBM3e technology for the first time. The GH 200 announced in May has been fully put into production, and the GH 200 with new storage technology is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2024.
Regarding Hon Hai's electric vehicle plan, Liu Yangwei introduced that in the past three years, a series of automotive products have been launched, including high-end business RVs, crossover RVs, SUVs, pickup trucks, commercial buses, and commercial sedans, demonstrating Hon Hai's diversified investment and innovation capabilities in multiple automotive fields.
At the Hon Hai Technology Day, Liu Yangwei presented Hon Hai's latest electric vehicle model N to the outside world, stating that it demonstrated Hon Hai's comprehensive vertical integration capabilities. He also shouted to traditional car companies, "This is the future where you can fully leverage Hon Hai's advantages
In fact, Hon Hai's "car manufacturing" has adopted the CDMS (commissioned design and manufacturing services) business model, which provides complete and customizable solutions for the automotive industry. In other words, Hon Hai is transitioning from integrated manufacturing services to a "solution company". Liu Yangwei stated that this helps to reduce production costs and shorten product launch time, which is considered one of the key factors for the success of the future electric vehicle industry.
Huang Renxun revealed that the two companies will jointly build an AI factory. Hon Hai is incredible. It can integrate cars and platforms, and develop various technologies from heat dissipation to semiconductors. As for the revolution in computer AI computing, we will also embark on a new chapter, "said Huang Renxun.
Regarding the cooperation model between NVIDIA and Hon Hai, Huang Renxun stated that on the one hand, AI can be built on electric vehicles, loaded with AI "brains" in the car, and on the other hand, AI factory software can update the entire AI automotive industry chain.
Specifically, Hon Hai will build intelligent electric vehicle platforms, autonomous mobile robot platforms, and intelligent video analysis platforms for smart cities based on NVIDIA's capabilities.
It is worth noting that this is the first time Hon Hai has invited partners to share on stage at Hon Hai Technology Day. The two companies invited this time are NVIDIA and ZF Chassis, which are subsidiaries of German automotive parts supplier ZF. Hon Hai has acquired 50% of its equity. Liu Yangwei stated that combining Hon Hai's supply chain management, economies of scale, and innovative manufacturing, these two companies "will change the game rules of this industry".
