Red Star Capital Bureau reported on December 18th that a "super long live broadcast" attracted attention on December 17th. Li Bin, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO (09866. HK/NIO. US), tested a 150 degree ultra long range battery pack while driving an ET7. After more than 14 hours of driving, Li Bin, who departed from Shanghai, finally drove to the Longjue East Service Area in Xiamen, achieving a result of driving over 1000 kilometers with a power battery.
Li Bin's Live Challenge "1000 Kilometer Range"
At 6:30 am on December 17th, Li Bin, founder and CEO of NIO, conducted a live broadcast of the "1000 km True Range Challenge for Electric Vehicles". He drove the NIO ET7 with a 150 degree battery pack and set off from Shanghai for range testing.
At 19:50 on the 17th, Li Bin and this NIO ET7 equipped with a 150 degree battery pack finally achieved a driving range of 1000 kilometers. At this point, the car still has 7% of its battery remaining.
It is reported that the average energy consumption per 100 kilometers of the 1044 kilometers tested this time is 13.2 kWh (kilowatt hours), with a remaining 3% of electricity, and it is expected to continue driving for more than 30 kilometers. Li Bin stated that the 150 degree ultra long endurance battery pack carried with the vehicle this time is the world's first thermal runaway free soft pack CTP battery, with a cell energy density of up to 360Wh/kg (watt hours/kg), which is currently the product with the highest power and energy density that can be mass-produced in China.
NIO introduced that the ultra long battery pack tested this time can adapt to all models on NIO's first and second generation platforms, which means it can support battery swapping. However, according to Beijing Daily, NIO President Qin Lihong has revealed that the cost of the battery pack is very high, equivalent to a NIO ET5 (starting at 298000 yuan). Therefore, the large-scale commercialization of this battery pack may still take some time.
Li Bin also suggested during the live broadcast, "In the future, CEOs of major car companies will personally test the true range of their own electric vehicles, after all, CEOs can handle it, and ordinary users will definitely be similar."
At the same time, Li Bin also stated in the live broadcast that NIO's battery strategy is "rechargeable, interchangeable, and upgradeable". Vehicles that have been delivered can also choose to upgrade their batteries according to the needs of users. In the future, users can rent a 150 degree battery pack on a daily basis when they have long-distance needs, and can exchange it for a regular battery pack after the demand ends.
"Today's test is to let everyone know that wherever gasoline powered cars can go, electric vehicles can go. The release of this battery has been delayed compared to the original plan, mainly because the technology is too advanced. With our upgraded battery swapping service, it can solve the needs of a few user scenarios and alleviate concerns about battery life," said Li Bin.
Is "winter testing" necessary?
