On November 10th, the topic "Domestic new phones launched, old iPhone drops to half price" surged to the hot search on Weibo.
Recently, domestic brand new machines have been launched one after another, sparking a new wave of rotating machines. For local brand new phones, Apple (AAPL, stock price: $226.96; total market value: $3.431 trillion) is facing enormous market competition pressure. Faced with increasingly fierce competition, the iPhone 16 experienced a significant price drop just one month after its release, and older iPhone models also saw price reductions, with the iPhone 14 dropping to half price.
On a certain e-commerce platform, there is indeed an iPhone 14 128GB version priced at 2349 yuan, which is equivalent to half the price compared to the official Apple website's 4699 yuan price. However, it should be noted that the quantity of iPhone14 products at this price is limited and needs to meet certain conditions before being sold at a regular price.
At present, on several major e-commerce platforms, the common price of the iPhone 14 series ranges from 4139 yuan to 4699 yuan, which has decreased by more than 1300 yuan compared to its newly released price two years ago (starting from 5999 yuan).
On September 10th of this year, Apple officially released the iPhone 16 series products and officially released them on September 20th. With the arrival of the "Double 11" e-commerce festival, Apple's iPhone 16 series, which has only been released for one month, also saw a price reduction at the end of October, marking the first official channel price reduction since the release of the new phone.
According to the official Tmall Apple flagship store promotion, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and other series of products enjoy varying degrees of discount. The entire iPhone 16 series can receive a 500 yuan coupon, with a starting price of 5499 yuan. The starting price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max is reduced to 9499 yuan, which is close to the price of third-party channels. Consumers can also enjoy an additional subsidy of trade in, up to 1100 yuan.
It is worth noting that Apple's revenue in Greater China is still declining.
On November 1st Beijing time, Apple released its financial report for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024 (Q3 2024), which showed that Apple achieved revenue of $94.93 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.07%; The net profit was 14.736 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 35.81%.
It is reported that the decline in Apple's net profit is mainly due to the heavy fines imposed by the European Union. This quarter, Apple paid a one-time tax of $10.2 billion due to the previous ruling by the European Union, resulting in a decline in net profit.
In terms of products, in the third quarter, the net sales of various products such as Apple phones, computers, and wearable devices totaled $69.96 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%, and analysts expected $69.15 billion.
Among them, iPhone revenue was $46.22 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%, and analysts expected $45.04 billion.
From a regional perspective, Apple's revenue in the Americas region for the third quarter was $41.66 billion, higher than the $40.12 billion in the same period last year. The revenue in the European region was 24.92 billion US dollars, higher than the 22.46 billion US dollars in the same period last year. The revenue in Greater China was $15.03 billion, lower than the $15.08 billion in the same period last year. Japan's revenue was 5.93 billion US dollars, higher than the 5.51 billion US dollars in the same period last year. The remaining revenue in the Asia Pacific region was 7.38 billion US dollars, higher than the 6.33 billion US dollars in the same period last year.
Among them, Greater China is the only region where revenue has declined and falls short of the average Wall Street analyst expectation of $15.8 billion. In the second quarter, Greater China was also the only market with a decline in revenue.
According to market research firm Counterpoint, in the first three weeks of its launch in China, the sales of the iPhone 16 series increased by 20% compared to 2023 models, while sales of high-end models increased by 44% compared to similar versions last year. However, due to the decline in sales of older models and intensified competition with Huawei, the overall sales of iPhone in China decreased by 2% year-on-year within three weeks.
According to data released by research firm Counterpoint, global smartphone sales increased by 2% year-on-year in the third quarter of this year; In terms of manufacturers, Samsung and Apple had the same year-on-year sales in the quarter, with Apple becoming the top selling brand in September, thanks to the early release of the iPhone 16.
Canalys data shows that in the third quarter of this year, Samsung narrowly defeated Apple and occupied the first place in the market, while Apple's market share reached 18%, ranking second. Canalys analyst Runar Bjrhovde emphasized, "In the third quarter of this year, Apple's shipment volume reached the highest level in the same period of the year, and it has never been so close to the position of global shipment number one. Despite the mediocre initial response, with Apple Intelligence expanding into new markets and supporting more languages, it is expected that the iPhone 16 will help Apple maintain strong growth in 2024 and continue its development momentum into the first half of 2025
