On September 25th local time, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Director Mike Whittaker told the US Senate Permanent Investigative Committee that Boeing must first address a series of safety issues before he can ask the company to increase production of the 737 MAX, warning that this issue could affect the company's profits.
Whittaker said that if Boeing cannot make extensive safety improvements in key categories and maintain these improvements at higher productivity, Boeing will not be able to develop to the level they need to. If they don't do this, they won't grow, and if they don't grow, they won't be able to achieve profitability
