The economic foundation determines the superstructure, which is particularly appropriate for the November election in the United States. According to the latest Ipsos poll, the ability to handle economic and inflation issues is the most important factor for voters when considering who is more suitable to serve as the President of the United States.
Statistics show that 88% of respondents consider economic issues as the most important measurement factor for their voting, and 85% consider inflation as a key consideration. In this regard, more Americans clearly trust Trump more than Biden, emphasizing that the US economy under Trump's leadership is better than Biden's.
But the persistent problem that troubles voters is that both candidates have hidden concerns about their age, so they are not very trustworthy. This also makes Ipso believe that this year's US election has always been in an unpredictable situation.
Stagflation strike
Last week, the United States released several important economic data, including the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and the US Labor Bureau's April non farm payroll data. Among them, the US labor market has shown a slightly weak trend, but overall it remains stable, which makes the US market both happy and worried.
Some analysts have warned that the United States is getting closer to the concept of "stagflation", which means that growth is slowing but inflation remains high. And this risk undoubtedly gave Biden another "negative review" of his economic performance.
The latest poll shows that only 35% of Americans agree with Biden's approach to presidential work, 57% disagree, and 8% have no objections or skipped the issue. 44% of Americans agree with Trump's performance, while 50% do not.
More and more Americans believe that Trump can surpass Biden in dealing with economic and inflation issues. On economic issues, 46% of people trust Trump and 32% trust Biden; Meanwhile, on the issue of inflation, 44% of people believe in Trump and 30% believe in Biden.
Beyond economic issues, crime and security (77%), healthcare (76%), and protecting American democracy (76%) are the second most important issues for Americans to decide to support presidential candidates. In these aspects, Biden and Trump each have their own advantages and have become potential variables in the election.
Finally, respondents stated that if the US election were held on the day of the interview (April 26-30), 40% of people would vote for Trump and 38% would vote for Biden.
Although these data may not yet represent the final outcome, they undoubtedly sound the alarm for the Biden team once again. The problem is that the Biden team may not be able to influence the direction of the US economy either.
