On April 24th, during Tesla's Q1 2024 financial report conference call, CEO Elon Musk stated that Tesla will be the most capable company among all humanoid machine manufacturers. By the end of 2024, humanoid robots may be able to start doing simple work in factories, and Tesla may sell them to the public by the end of 2025.
At the end of 2023, Tesla showcased the more precise and flexible humanoid robot Optimus II to the world. Optimus adopts a visual perception scheme and neural network technology that is similar to FSD fully autonomous driving technology to complete core functions such as path planning and object recognition.
In recent years, Tesla has built powerful infrastructure, such as the Dojo supercomputer, which provides strong underlying technical support for Tesla's autonomous driving and robotics businesses. In terms of performance, at the same cost, the Dojo supercomputer can achieve 4 times more performance and 1.3 times more energy consumption than the Nvidia A100. The Morgan Stanley report indicates that Dojo has saved Tesla up to $6.5 billion in costs. Due to its enormous potential in empowering the development of artificial intelligence technology, it will bring Tesla a market value increase of up to $500 billion in the future.
Currently, Tesla is fully increasing its investment in the field of artificial intelligence. In early 2024, Musk confirmed on social media that Tesla will invest $500 million in the New York Superfactory to build a Dojo supercomputer cluster. He also pointed out that the investment amount to maintain competitiveness in the AI field will be billions of dollars per year. In early April, Musk further pointed out that Tesla's cumulative investment in the field of autonomous driving (computing power training, large-scale data pipelines, and video storage) will exceed $10 billion in 2024.
