According to the report, data released by the South Korean Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday showed that the number of births in South Korea decreased by 12.8% year-on-year to 189.84 million, the highest decrease in nearly 2 years and 9 months since November 2020 (-15.5%). This is the first time since 1981 that the birth population has been below 20000.
In fact, the birth population of South Korea has been decreasing year-on-year for six consecutive years since December 2015. The population born in August 2022 and 2021 decreased by 2.2% and 0.5% respectively year-on-year.

The number of deaths has been increasing year-on-year since May this year (0.2%).
