Under the increasingly strict antitrust measures in Europe, how can one avoid becoming a "rising star" at risk of being shot? The answer handed over by Microsoft is: aggressively boasting about competitors
Microsoft recently told EU antitrust regulators that Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has a competitive advantage in generating artificial intelligence due to its large amount of data and chips optimized specifically for AI.
The above comments from Microsoft are a response to the investigation launched by the European Commission in January this year regarding competition in the field of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AIGC).
AIGC applications can generate responses similar to humans based on written prompts. ChatGPT, a chat robot supported by Microsoft's OpenAI, and Gemini from Google are the two top representatives of current global generative artificial intelligence models.
Microsoft stated in its report to the European Commission that to this day, only one company - Google - has strong capabilities and independence in every aspect of artificial intelligence, from chips to mobile app stores, through vertical integration. And all other enterprises must rely on cooperative relationships to innovate and compete& Amp; Quota;
Microsoft stated that Google's self-developed artificial intelligence chips will give it a competitive advantage in the coming years, and the large amount of proprietary data from Google's search index and YouTube will also make it easier to train the big language model Gemini.
"YouTube provides an unparalleled set of video content; it is estimated to host 14 billion videos. Google can directly access this content, but other artificial intelligence developers cannot," Microsoft said.
Microsoft also pointed out that artificial intelligence voice assistants such as Google Assistant from Google and Siri from Apple have brought advantages to these two companies.
"They are fully capable of developing and utilizing their existing voice assistants, occupying a leading position in the field of generative artificial intelligence. New entrants and competitors will not be able to enjoy the same advantages as Google and Apple."
And Google has also responded to Microsoft's boasting
A Google spokesperson said, "We hope the committee's research can also focus on companies that have not provided the same level of openness as Google Cloud or have long-term customer retention, as well as companies that embed the same methods into artificial intelligence services."
Currently, Microsoft's over $10 billion investment in OpenAI is under the spotlight of EU antitrust regulators, and Microsoft is also trying to dispel regulatory concerns about this partnership between large technology companies and startups.
Microsoft stated that all these startups rely on different forms of investment and partnerships to enter and expand into this field. Encouraging the establishment of competitive partnerships in the field of artificial intelligence is an effective way to prevent some companies from vertically integrating in ways that may lead to anti competitive advantages.
