The latest data shows that three more EU member states have joined the list of "ultra-low fertility" countries, including Germany, the "locomotive" of the European economy, highlighting the severity of the population challenge in the region. According to official economic data from the German Federal Statistical Office, a total of 692989 babies were born in the country in 2023, the lowest level since 2014, a decrease of 45830 or 6% compared to 738819 newborns in 2022.
