According to foreign media reports, on March 11th local time, a Boeing 787-9 aircraft operated by Latham Airways from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand experienced technical problems. During the flight, it made a sharp descent and made a "severe dive" for a few seconds, causing passengers to collide with the top of the cabin, resulting in at least 50 injuries and injuries to the crew.
According to Reuters, this Boeing 787-9 aircraft carrying 263 passengers and 9 crew members took off from Sydney and was originally scheduled to land at Auckland Airport in the afternoon of the same day.
"The plane took a sharp turn and descended without prior notice. Its way of landing was different from what it had experienced in any mild airflow, feeling like it was at the top of a roller coaster," said passenger Brian Jokat. Many passengers were thrown from their seats, hit the roof of the cabin, and then fell down the aisle again.
According to the Associated Press, when the Boeing 787-9 aircraft landed in Auckland, medical staff and more than ten ambulances were waiting on site.
According to relevant sources, about 50 people were receiving treatment on site, most of whom suffered minor injuries, and 13 people were taken to the hospital. One of them is in a more serious condition.
The New Zealand Herald reported that the bumpy landing of this Boeing aircraft in the air was due to "technical issues". Currently, neither Boeing nor Latham Airways have responded to this.
Since 2024, Boeing has been embroiled in multiple aviation safety scandals. In January, the fuselage of a Boeing 737Max series aircraft operated by Alaska Airlines partially exploded, causing several injuries on board and grounding 171 Boeing 737Max9 aircraft across the United States. In March, United Airlines Boeing experienced three more accidents within five days, including engine fires, tire slippage, and runway slippage.
