United Airlines issued a statement on the 7th stating that a Boeing 777-200 aircraft flying to Osaka, Japan experienced a tire drop accident while taking off from San Francisco in the morning of the same day.
Live video shows that a tire on the left main landing gear of United Airlines Flight 35 fell off a few seconds after takeoff. The two main landing gears of the Boeing 777-200 model each have six tires.
After the accident, the runway at San Francisco Airport was briefly closed for cleaning work. The fallen tire debris smashed several cars in the airport employee parking lot, and there were no reports of injuries to ground personnel.
United Airlines stated that there were 235 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and 4 pilots on the flight, totaling 249 people. After the tire drop accident, the plane made an emergency alternate landing at Los Angeles International Airport, and the airline arranged for a new plane to transport passengers to Osaka.
The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States has issued a statement stating that it will investigate the accident.
