On January 31st, a Beijing Business Daily reporter learned that Coca Cola will try out unlabeled Sprite bottles at eight Tesco Express stores in Brighton, Bristol, London, and Manchester in the UK for a period of three months to reduce packaging materials and simplify recycling. It is understood that this unlabeled packaging bottle will use an embossed logo on the front of the packaging and laser engraved product information on the back.
This will reduce the amount of packaging used and improve the recycling process: although the existing labels are already completely recyclable, they need to be separated from the bottles during the recycling process, and using laser engraving can completely avoid this step. Coca Cola UK GB& Dusan Stojangic, Vice President of Franchise at I, stated that, We hope to help create a future where plastic beverage packaging is never used more than once. Labels contain valuable information for consumers, but with the help of technology, we can now try other ways to share this information while reducing the amount of packaging we use. Unlabeling is a small step, but it is one of the several methods we are exploring that can make recycling easier, reduce waste, and minimize waste The impact of less packaging on the environment
