Boeing will withdraw its 737 MAX 7 aircraft safety exemption application from the US FAA. On January 29th, Boeing confirmed that it will withdraw an application made last year to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for a safety standard exemption for 737 MAX 7 aircraft awaiting certification. Tammy Duckworth, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations, and Innovation, stated last week that she opposes Boeing's exemption request as it would "prematurely allow the 737 MAX 7 to enter commercial service.". Daeworth pointed out that the exemption sought by Boeing "involves the engine anti icing system, which may overheat and cause the engine nacelle to rupture and detach. This could result in fragments penetrating the fuselage, endangering passengers sitting behind the wing windows.".
