After many years, Huang Renxun, an iconic figure in the global chip industry, visited Chinese Mainland again.
On January 20, surging journalists confirmed from Nvidia China that Huang Renxun, CEO of AI (artificial intelligence) chip giant Nvidia, visited Chinese Mainland this week to see Nvidia employees in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen for the annual meeting, and now he has left Chinese Mainland.
Prior to this, multiple photos and performance videos of "Huang Renxun wearing Northeast Big Flower Clothes" had already circulated online. According to a reporter from Pengpai News, it was indeed a live performance of the annual conference program. An insider at NVIDIA told Paper that Huang Renxun has prepared different activities for the annual meetings in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. According to the video, Huang Renxun hosted a lottery at the meeting and even dressed in a "big flower vest" to perform the Northeast Errenzhuan with the employees on stage.
This is Huang Renxun's visit to Chinese Mainland after several years. In June last year, it was reported that Huang Renxun was going to visit Chinese Mainland and visit several enterprises, but he did not make the trip in the end.
It is worth noting that Nvidia's stock price has recently reached a historic high. On January 19th, NVDA closed at $594.91 per share, up 4.17%. Since 2024, its stock price has risen by more than 20%, with a total market value of $1.47 trillion.
In early January of this year, Nvidia launched a new consumer grade graphics card GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series for gamers and creators, including three GPUs: RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super, with performance upgrades on previous styles. Justin Walker, Vice President of NVIDIA, emphasized at the press conference that NVIDIA's new graphics cards comply with export control requirements and can be provided to Chinese consumers.
Nvidia China did not disclose more about Huang Renxun's itinerary in Chinese Mainland, but the market had heard that Nvidia's "downgraded" chips were cold in China. According to Global Times on January 8th, foreign media reported that US technology giant Nvidia wanted to sell its lower performing AI chips to Chinese buyers in response to the Biden administration's export restrictions, but Chinese customers were not interested in the latest situation. According to the "Business Insider" website, Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun has stated that the US export control measures are like "tying our hands behind our backs.". He stated that China has always been an important market for Nvidia, accounting for 20% of the company's revenue share.
At the regular press conference of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 8th, a reporter asked that the US continues to tighten its chip export control measures against China, increasing pressure on Chinese semiconductor companies. What is the spokesperson's comment on this? Spokesperson Mao Ning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded that the United States has continuously increased its chip export control measures against China under the pretext of so-called "national security", unreasonably suppressing Chinese semiconductor companies, and is a genuine economic bullying act. The US has used "national security" as an excuse to restrict chip exports to China, but in reality, the measures completely go beyond the boundaries of national security concepts, greatly limiting the normal trade of ordinary civilian chips. The NVIDIA RTX 4090 chip is positioned as a consumer grade graphics card, mainly aimed at "audiophile" computer game players. Affected by US export control measures, this chip was forced to be taken down from the Chinese market, and the US also coerced some countries to suppress Chinese related enterprises, which is not related to security and is a typical act of economic coercion.
