On January 18th, TSMC executives revealed at a financial report meeting that the company's second wafer fab in Arizona, USA will start production in 2027 or 2028, later than previously expected in 2026.
TSMC announced in July last year that it had postponed the start of production for Arizona's first wafer factory due to a lack of skilled labor and high costs. TSMC predicts that the factory is expected to mass produce 4-nanometer chips in the first half of next year.
TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin stated that the company is continuing to negotiate incentive measures and tax reductions with the US government. He reiterated the challenges TSMC faces in recruiting in Arizona, stating that the company is continuing to communicate with local unions. (Bloomberg)
