According to Reuters, on January 16th local time, Boeing appointed retired Navy Admiral Kirkland Donald as an independent consultant to lead a comprehensive quality review of Boeing's commercial aircraft quality management system.
Boeing stated that Donald and an external team of experts will provide advice to Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and the Boeing Board Aerospace Safety Committee, and the appointment will take effect immediately.
On January 17th local time, Alaska Airlines issued a statement stating that its maintenance and engineering personnel had completed a preliminary inspection of its Boeing 737 MAX 9 fleet at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and would provide the data to Boeing and FAA for further analysis.
