On December 27th, it was reported that Uber is seeking to cooperate with Tesla to enter the Japanese ride hailing market. The Japanese government has recently decided to allow ride hailing services to operate in specific areas and times starting from April next year, in order to alleviate the shortage of taxi drivers.
It is reported that Uber will initially deploy 30 Tesla Model Y electric vehicles, increasing to 100 by 2024. Its pricing will be about 20% higher than the general cost of local taxis. (Nihon Keizai Shimbun)
