Internet and technology giants are crossing over to make cars
Against the backdrop of global green and low-carbon transformation, the new energy vehicle industry has ushered in vast opportunities. In addition to the aforementioned new forces, it has also attracted many companies from the internet, home appliances, technology, and even the real estate industry to cross border into the car manufacturing market. At the same time, many upstream companies in the industrial chain have invested heavily in upstream car companies, making the new car manufacturing force track increasingly lively.
From the current situation, there are three main modes of cross-border car manufacturing, namely independent car manufacturing, cooperative car manufacturing, and assisted car manufacturing. Among them, there are many types of companies that assist in car manufacturing, and the most well-known one is Huawei, which provides solutions such as autonomous driving and cooperates with automobile manufacturers; In addition, OPPO in the domestic mobile phone industry and Tencent in the internet industry have also launched a model to assist in car manufacturing. Tencent has invested in car companies such as Tesla and NIO, launching an ecological car networking TAL and relying on cloud computing to assist in the digital transformation of car companies. Industry insiders believe that with the requirements of environmental protection policies, vehicle lightweighting and other policies, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles is expected to gradually increase, and the market prospects are also relatively broad. Relevant enterprises hope to obtain the dividends of new energy vehicle development through entering the market for vehicle manufacturing; On the other hand, the growth of our own business is weak, and we need to open up new businesses to drive our own development.
According to incomplete statistics from Securities Times and Databao, lithium battery giants Tianqi Lithium and Ganfeng Lithium, as well as home appliance companies Midea Group and Haier Zhijia, have entered the car manufacturing market.
Tianqi Lithium invested $150 million in the new luxury pure electric vehicle technology brand Smart; Ganfeng Lithium plans to subscribe to the newly added registered capital of 100 million yuan of Chongqing Ruichi Automobile Industry Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Selis, with a cash payment of 1 billion yuan.
These companies, except for Lingzhi Manufacturing, performed relatively average this year. From the perspective of institutional performance forecasts, except for Tianqi Lithium and Ganfeng Lithium, which are affected by industry prosperity, the net profits of other companies are expected to increase by different degrees in 2023 and 2024.
In terms of research and development, the R&D intensity of Lingyi Zhizao, Haier Zhijia, and others exceeded 3.5% in the first half of 2023.
Although the difficulty of car manufacturing has decreased compared to the past, cars are developing towards the "new four modernizations" (electrification, intelligence, networking, and sharing).
