"After the launch of the carbon account for truck drivers on the Man Bang platform, Chinese truck drivers are transitioning from passive replacement of new national standard vehicles to the idea of increasing full load rate, reducing empty driving rate, opening carbon accounts, and realizing carbon credits.", Chen Chaohui, Chief Scientist of Man Bang Group, introduced the "Green Logistics+" service system launched by Man Bang Group during the China Corner Conference at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
It is reported that on June 5, 2023, Manbang Group officially opened carbon accounts for over 3000 truck drivers nationwide, which is also the first carbon account in China's road freight industry. Truck drivers can use their carbon accounts to view the carbon credits they earn while carrying goods, and further redeem the green benefits set up by the platform to gain more tangible benefits. This not only helps to increase effective transportation mileage and reduce unit carbon emissions, but more importantly, it helps drivers gradually shift their mindset from "I want to save energy" to "I want to save energy".
Chen Chaohui revealed that on December 1st, the short distance brand of Man Bang Group, Provincial Government, will officially launch carbon accounts for over 2500 new energy vehicle drivers in Guangzhou. On the basis of the original policy of tilting new energy vehicles, the provincial government has also set up special funds to distribute green rights to carbon account drivers. By further enhancing driver activity, revitalizing the city's green transportation capacity pool, and driving more fuel vehicles to upgrade and replace with new energy vehicles. It is expected that by the end of 2023, more than one million truck drivers on the Manbang platform will apply to open carbon accounts.
As is well known, road freight transportation is the core battlefield for carbon reduction in China's transportation sector. The data shows that the total carbon emissions in China in 2022 are about 12.1 billion tons, of which the transportation sector accounts for about 10.4%. In the field of transportation, the carbon emissions generated by road transportation account for over 80%, with road freight accounting for over 60% of the carbon emissions. At the same time, the road freight industry has a long industrial chain, wide coverage, and many related enterprises, with a relatively large proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises, which leads to weak carbon reduction awareness and insufficient experience. If we want to achieve green, low-carbon, and sustainable development of the entire road freight industry, it is fundamental to link the upstream and downstream of the entire industry chain to carry out carbon reduction and green actions together.
Based on this, Manbang Group, together with China Classification Society, China Communications Information Center, Everbright Bank, Zhongce Rubber, TEDA, Zhijia Technology, and others, jointly launched the China Highway Freight Sustainable Development Green Action and jointly launched the "Green Logistics+" service system. The participating parties promise to continuously improve key technologies such as carbon reduction accounting standards and monitoring methods in the field of road freight transportation, while integrating their respective advantageous resources, expanding the green rights and welfare mechanism of carbon account drivers, and further enhancing the enthusiasm of truck drivers for energy conservation and carbon reduction.
It is worth mentioning that the "Green Logistics+Finance" service jointly launched by Manbang Group and China Everbright Bank has been officially launched. Both parties have established a green credit system based on mutual recognition and trust of driver carbon accounts, taking the lead in using the "Green Evaluation Factor" as an important indicator for financial institutions to evaluate the credit of truck drivers. Drivers with higher green evaluations will enjoy green privileges in terms of loan amount, interest rate, repayment cycle, and other aspects. Further enhance the experience and sense of achievement of truck drivers in the field of financial services, encourage more truck drivers to enhance their awareness of energy conservation and carbon reduction, and become the main force on the road of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" in the transportation sector.
Wang Boyong, Director of the Smart Freight Center and Secretary General of the Zero Emission Freight Action, believes that there are many participants in China's road freight transportation, and the maturity and economic feasibility of green and low-carbon technologies still need to be improved, posing challenges to green transformation. He suggests fully mobilizing upstream shippers in the supply chain to gradually achieve low-carbon transformation in the industry by purchasing and cultivating smart, green, and efficient transportation capacity with logistics transportation service providers and logistics partners. One is to calculate and report carbon reduction results through green freight procurement, and set carbon emission targets; The second is to collaborate with industry ecological partners, empower carbon reduction technology promotion and green behavior incentives through green finance, improve transportation organization efficiency, adopt and promote low-carbon energy vehicles and low-carbon solutions to reduce supply chain carbon emissions. This requires companies to adopt common logistics carbon emission calculation and reporting standards, work together to establish zero emission partnerships, and jointly promote the transformation of zero emission and efficient freight transportation.
