On November 9th, Sony disclosed its performance for the second quarter of the 2023 fiscal year, stating that during that fiscal quarter, the total shipment volume of Sony's PlayStation 5 (referred to as "PS5") gaming console was 4.9 million units, an increase of 1.6 million units compared to the same period last year, and the cumulative shipment volume of PS5 reached 46.6 million units.
As a new game console device released by Sony on November 12, 2020, the PS5 was once limited by the supply chain and faced a shortage. It is reported that Eric Lempel, Sony's senior vice president, revealed in an interview with CNBC that this year the PS5 will be fully stocked for the first time and will no longer be in short supply.
There are some figures from Chinese companies in the supply chain of PS5. It is understood that Zhishang Technology's game console connector for PS5 products will be supplied to Foxconn and Goethe AG from August 2021. As an indirect supplier in Sony's supply chain system, the company mainly sells its products to manufacturing service companies such as Foxconn and Goethe. After the company's products are certified by Sony, corresponding material part numbers will be created at Sony and its partner manufacturing service companies Foxconn and Goethe Corporation. Collaborating with such manufacturing service enterprises is considered as obtaining Sony's recognition.
According to the prospectus of Zhishang Technology, the company's sales revenue of PS5 connectors in 2021 and 2022 were 754200 yuan and 3.5577 million yuan, respectively, with gross profit margins of 36.51% and 32.46%.
In fact, Zhishang Technology has long had a layout for Sony's industrial chain. In 2009, the products of Chunsheng Electronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhishang Technology, were imported into Sony's supply chain through Foxconn. In 2015, Chunsheng Electronics supplied connector products for the PS4 connector project, with sales revenue of 7.8248 million yuan, 6.3014 million yuan, and 6.3863 million yuan from 2020 to 2022, respectively.
Zhishang Technology stated that with the update and iteration of Sony's mainstream game consoles, the company's game console connector revenue not only comes from PS4 game consoles, but also partially from PS5 game consoles. Although the company's game console connector products are affected by terminal game console updates, iterations, and lifecycle changes, there are certain cyclical characteristics.
