As the end of the year approaches, Tesla is launching promotional activities for its best-selling models. On November 25th, Tesla China released a limited time discount policy, offering a 10000 yuan discount on the final payment for Model Y's limited time delivery, and an additional 5-year interest free policy. This promotion is applicable to all models of Model Y. Taking the Model Y rear wheel drive version as an example, the discounted price starts at 239900 yuan.
After the promotion policy was released, Interface News visited several Tesla stores in Beijing, and a salesperson from one of the stores told reporters, "In the two days since the promotion policy was launched, the number of people coming to see the car has significantly increased. During the reporter's visit, several consumers came into the store for consultation, and one was completing the ordering process.
It is worth mentioning that Tesla's limited time promotion ends on December 31st, and consumers can only enjoy a discount of 10000 yuan if they complete delivery before this date, which takes 1 to 3 weeks from placing the order to delivery. So the first two weeks will be the peak period for stimulating transactions.
Tesla's sudden price reduction promotion at the end of the year has also sparked a new round of "price wars". According to statistics, Tesla has conducted 6 price reductions and promotions this year, with a higher frequency than last year's 4.
Despite repeated price reductions, Tesla still faces significant pressure to achieve its goal of a "slight increase" in sales this year. Tesla delivered 1.81 million new cars throughout last year, while only 1.329 million electric vehicles were delivered in the first three quarters of this year. As the world's best-selling electric vehicle model, Tesla Model Y sold over 844000 units worldwide in the first three quarters. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the sales of Model Y in China exceeded 36000 units in October, and the cumulative sales in China this year have exceeded 373000 units.
Against the backdrop of domestic price wars and rapid development of new energy vehicles, multiple domestic car manufacturers have launched pure electric SUVs, eroding the market share of Model Y. Before FSD truly entered China, Tesla's leading advantage over domestic brands was gradually reduced, and its market share in the Chinese market had declined from 16% in 2021 to 7.8%.
In addition, there have been rumors in the market that Tesla will launch a new Model Y with significant changes next year and it has already been put into production. This price reduction is considered to be clearing inventory of old models. Tesla officially denies this.
