On November 28th local time, the Canadian Competition Authority issued a statement stating that it is taking legal action against Google for its anti competitive practices in online advertising technology services in Canada.
Google's Vice President of Global Advertising, Dan Taylor, responded in a statement that the complaint filed by the Canadian Competition Authority "ignores intense competition and the many choices available to advertising buyers and sellers. He also stated that Google looks forward to presenting its views in court. Taylor said that Google's advertising technology tools can help websites and applications raise funds for their content and help businesses attract new customers. Google has 45 days to submit a response to the court.
The statement from the Canadian Competition Agency stated that the investigation found that as Canada's largest provider of online advertising technology, Google abused its market dominance by implementing anti competitive behavior, preventing competition from rivals, suppressing innovation, raising advertising costs, and reducing revenue for distribution agencies. The Canadian Competition Authority stated that they have filed an application with the competition court, requesting Google to sell two advertising technology tools, pay fines, and prohibit Google from continuing to engage in anti competitive behavior.
