If we can leverage the advantages of rehabilitation big data and the power of AI to enable professional supervisors and rehabilitation therapists to focus on providing personalized rehabilitation training for children and radiate this professional ability to the entire rehabilitation industry for special needs children through AI, the number of children benefiting will be immeasurable, "said Jiang Yingshuang, founder and chairman of Rice and Xiaomi, in an interview with First Financial.
Rice and Xiaomi is a domestic rehabilitation center for children with special needs. Recently, Amazon Web Services (AWS) collaborated with Rice and Xiaomi to launch the first complete AI solution based on big models for the rehabilitation of children with special needs in China. Through the organic combination of "base big models+professional knowledge+rehabilitation big data", the joint innovation of intelligent assessment, rehabilitation intervention, home training and other full scenario and full process processes for children with special needs has been achieved.
For rice and Xiaomi, this is an innovative attempt at technological upgrading, and for Amazon Web Services, it is a co creation exploration of localizing in the health field in China.
Technology supports personalized treatment
In 2024, Amazon Web Services increased its focus on the healthcare industry and organized online seminars to discuss the digital transformation of healthcare organizations. According to a survey conducted in 2023, nearly 70% of respondents prioritize digital transformation to achieve operational efficiency, cost savings, and improve patient outcomes, emphasizing the role of cloud computing, electronic health records (EHR), and artificial intelligence (AI) in improving efficiency and patient care.
In this context, Rice and Xiaomi have become one of the Chinese institutions co created with Amazon Web Services. In recent years, the incidence of developmental disorders in children has been increasing. The 2024 "Report on the Development of Autism Education and Rehabilitation Industry in China" conservatively estimates that there are about 2 million autistic children aged 0-14 in China, with an annual increase of about 160000. According to the official website of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, there will be 327000 registered personnel in rehabilitation institutions in 2022, which is a huge talent gap compared to the tens of millions of special needs children.
With rich machine learning and artificial intelligence services, as well as engineering capabilities, Amazon Web Services empowers rice and millet training, rehabilitation, and supervision strategy models, which are applied to the daily work processes of supervisors and rehabilitation therapists, improving frontline work efficiency and intervention accuracy. "Ni Dianling, General Manager of Amazon Web Services' Startup and General Business Department in Greater China, introduced that with the help of AI supervision, it is possible to get rid of repetitive work, think about more effective solutions, and provide training guidance for rehabilitation therapists, providing more accurate and personalized solutions for children with special needs.
From the opening of the first offline center to the beginning of online operations in 2018, Rice and Xiaomi have recorded every instruction issued by rehabilitation therapists, including the child's reaction and reaction level after the instruction is issued, how much assistance is needed, and when to leave the service and enter the next plan. With the accumulation and training of these data, supervisors now only need to review and fine tune the content generated by AI to confirm an evaluation report covering dimensions such as results and analysis, intervention goals, and intervention plans. It only takes less than 50 minutes before and after, and in the past, it took at least 3 hours to rely solely on manual writing. Last month, I used this RICE AI system to output evaluation reports for 9 children, which was very useful and greatly reduced our workload, "said Liang Linjie, a supervisor at a special needs children's rehabilitation institution.
In the view of Liu Yaxiao, Chief Technology Officer of Amazon Web Services, this is a manifestation of the CDM extension law in the big model, and the performance of a model requires three elements: data science, which means having good data; One is the model, the larger the model, the better the effect; Another factor is computer computing power.
Amazon Web Services: Public Welfare and Business Performance
At this year's AWS Summit held in Washington D.C., Amazon Web Services announced a $10 million offer to help non-profit organizations leverage the power of AWS to advance global pediatrics and children's causes. This funding will help conduct research on vulnerable patient populations that are limited by resources and sample sizes.
This plan will support alliances composed of hospitals and other institutions to more effectively manage data through the use of cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Researchers will be able to better understand the genetic makeup of diseases, enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis and providing more effective personalized treatments for patients.
For Amazon Web Services, maintaining its position as a market leader in cloud computing is not easy. At the beginning of 2024, Amazon extended the service life of its servers from 5 years to 6 years, which increased its operating profit margin by 2 percentage points.
According to the third quarter financial report of 2024, Google's cloud business, including infrastructure and software subscriptions, increased by 35% year-on-year to $11.35 billion, higher than the previous quarter's 29%. And Amazon Web Services grew by 19%, reaching $27.45 billion, which means its scale is more than twice that of Google Cloud, but its expansion speed is about half that of Google. Microsoft's revenue from Azure and other cloud services increased by 33% year-on-year.
In October of this year, Amazon Web Services announced the establishment of the first AWS IMAGE Grant: Children's Health Innovation, aimed at recognizing visionary organizations in the non-profit healthcare sector that use generative artificial intelligence and advanced cloud services to drive progress in key areas of children's health. We are pleased to support these organizations as they have made breakthrough progress in children's health, pediatric care, and research with the support of Amazon Web Services, "said Dave Levy, Global Public Sector Director at AWS
Rice and Xiaomi are still trying to launch home intervention products for families online, and believe that this is a possibility for larger scale families to benefit. This is our next direction. In terms of population size, the overall market size is actually in the tens of millions. However, the households we currently serve still account for a relatively small proportion of the entire market, and it is still a stage of supply shortage. Therefore, it is still a relatively early stage to calculate the entire market space and market ceiling, "said Wang Zhanwei, Vice President of Research and Development at Xiaomi.
Is it possible to further promote it to households or more scenarios through digital means in the future? This is something we both plan to explore in the next step. We will work step by step, quickly verify success, and quickly push forward. Then we will immediately look at what new requirements are and what services we need to provide. We will invest in this project and iterate every two to three weeks to quickly see results. If there are any problems, we will correct them as soon as possible, "said Liu Yaxiao, Chief Technology Officer of Amazon Web Services.
