Tesla recently unveiled its latest developed V4 Supercharging Station Cabinet, which can achieve a charging power of up to 500kW, providing electric vehicle users with an unprecedented fast charging experience. Tesla stated that the first batch of sites equipped with V4 charging station cabinets have entered the application for permission stage and are expected to officially open to the public next year.
A supercharging station consists of two main parts: a charging station (where the charging cable is located) and a charging station cabinet (usually located further away and containing all power electronic equipment).
Tesla has been deploying new charging stations over the past two years, known as the "Supercharger V4". However, the previously deployed charging stations only included charging stations. These so-called new "V4 Supercharging Stations" actually use V3 Supercharging Station cabinets, without involving cabinet upgrades, which limits the power output of charging stations to 250kW.
Now, Tesla has finally launched a "V4 charging station cabinet" that matches its name. It is said that the charging station cabinet can "provide up to 500kW of charging power for cars and 1.2MW of charging power for Semi trucks", marking a new era in electric vehicle charging technology.
The V4 Supercharging Station Cabinet not only improves charging speed, but also has higher compatibility and scalability. It supports vehicle architectures ranging from 400V to 1000V, including Tesla's own Cybertruck, which can provide a charging speed 30% faster than traditional charging methods. Meanwhile, for Tesla's S3XY model series, the V4 cabinet can also provide the same 250kW charging rate as the V3 cabinet, allowing these models to be fully charged with a range of approximately 321.87 kilometers in just 15 minutes.
The V4 cabinet has also demonstrated higher efficiency and flexibility in design and deployment. Each cabinet can supply power to up to 8 charging stations, doubling the number of charging stations compared to previous generation products. This not only reduces the footprint, but also lowers complexity, allowing more charging stations to be put into use more quickly.
The V4 Supercharging Station Cabinet adopts cutting-edge power electronics equipment, aiming to create the world's most reliable charging solution. Its power density has increased threefold, enabling higher charging throughput while maintaining low costs.
