Continuously promoting diversified exploration of green new models, McDonald's China has been making breakthroughs through continuous innovation in recent years. On October 15th, the McDonald's Meisha Vanke Restaurant, located in the "Yantian District Biosphere 3- Dameisha Vanke Center Carbon Neutrality Experimental Park" of Shenzhen's Pioneer Demonstration Green Near Zero Carbon Community, officially opened. The reporter learned that the restaurant was designed and built according to the internationally authoritative green building certification LEED net zero certification standard, and will become China's first "four zero restaurant", while meeting all four certifications in LEED net zero certification - zero carbon, zero energy consumption, zero waste, and zero water consumption. It is worth noting that after completing data collection and verification, this restaurant will also become the world's first fast food restaurant to achieve LEED four net zero certifications.
McDonald's China is driven by a 'green growth engine' to drive rapid business development. Since 2018, McDonald's China has designed and built new restaurants to LEED standards. Currently, over 3300 of our 6500 restaurants are LEED certified green restaurants, "said Zhang Jiayin, CEO of McDonald's China." McDonald's Shenzhen Meisha Vanke Restaurant is the third 'zero carbon restaurant' in our green restaurant family and will also be the first 'Green Grand Slam' fast food restaurant in China and even globally to achieve all four LEED net zero certifications. With it as a new starting point, we will continue to exert our brand influence and serve the community and the earth with love
Wang Shi, founder of Vanke Group, founder of Shenshi Group, and chairman of Vanke Public Welfare Foundation, said, "We believe that building green communities is not only the responsibility of enterprises, but also a commitment to the future. The construction of green communities requires the joint efforts of every enterprise and individual, and the cooperation between McDonald's and Vanke will inject new impetus into this vision. We hope that through the completion of this project, we can encourage more enterprises to participate in the wave of green transformation
It is understood that all electrical equipment in the "40 Zero Restaurant" is powered by photovoltaic systems on the rooftop of the park, with a carbon footprint close to zero. In addition, the restaurant classifies and recycles waste, and uses the "Black Water Fly Kitchen Waste Treatment Technology" in the park to biologically treat the wet waste generated during operation, turning kitchen waste into local resources and achieving "waste free operation". At the same time, the restaurant also utilizes the rainwater collection system and reclaimed water treatment system in the park to recycle kitchen water, achieving water recycling and maintaining a zero water balance. 70% of the restaurant's refrigeration equipment uses low GWP (global warming potential) refrigerants, reducing GWP by 70%, which is McDonald's China's first practice. It is worth mentioning that McDonald's has used the industry's high-tech building material "carbon brick" for the first time in the restaurant, which is about 23m; sup3; About 380kg of carbon dioxide is stored inside the brick wall, equivalent to the total amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by a palm tree in 37 years.
