Microsoft announced on October 14th local time that S é bastien Bubeck, Vice President of Generative Artificial Intelligence Research, will leave the company to join ChatGPT developer OpenAI. It is currently unclear what role Bubeck will play at OpenAI.
A Microsoft spokesperson stated that Sebastian has decided to leave Microsoft and continue working on developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and looks forward to continuing the partnership between the two companies through Bubeck's work at OpenAI.
According to The Information, which first reported on Bubeck's resignation, most of his co authors in the Microsoft Phi LLM research paper are still at Microsoft. They collaborated on research papers on Microsoft Phi LLMs and plan to continue developing these models. Phi LLM is more streamlined than traditional Large Language Models (LLMs).
S é bastien Bubeck previously worked at Microsoft Research for 10 years and served as an assistant professor at Princeton University for 3 years. Now it is more focused on understanding how intelligence appears in large language models and wants to use this to improve the intelligence of LLMs, moving towards building AGI (General Artificial Intelligence).
Previously, OpenAI had experienced several executive resignations, including Mira Murati, who had served as Chief Technology Officer for a long time, leaving in September.
