According to Securities Times, on Monday local time, Elon Musk invited billionaire investor Warren Buffett to invest in Tesla. This invitation was made in a response to a user's comment on social media, who suggested that Buffett sell his shares in Apple and instead purchase Tesla stocks. Musk responded positively to this and considered it an "obvious move" for Buffett.
According to a report by China Securities News, at the 2023 shareholder meeting, Buffett mentioned Musk and stated that Musk is a very intelligent person. "His dreams are ambitious, but not unfounded.".
Regarding the electric vehicle industry, Buffett admitted at last year's shareholder meeting that although he agrees that electric vehicles can overturn the automotive industry, no car factory can continue to hold a leading position, even for companies that have brought about the electric vehicle wave.
"I may be able to predict what Apple will do in the next 5 to 10 years, but I cannot predict the direction of the automotive company in 5 to 10 years," Buffett said.
Although the future of the electric vehicle industry is uncertain, Buffett is a long-term investor in BYD.
"When making investment decisions, Munger used to follow my instructions and agree with my proposals, but only two times he slapped the table with me and asked me to 'buy buy buy', one time to invest in BYD and the other time to invest in Costco," Buffett said at this year's shareholder meeting. Buffett emphasized that Munger was right in investing in both companies at important moments.
Buffett also said, "I think the investment in BYD is quite similar to our investment in Japan five years ago: we quickly invested in five companies in Japan, and you rarely see us making such investments outside of the United States."
In addition, it is worth noting that according to CCTV Finance, Tesla issued a layoff notice for the fourth consecutive week on May 6th local time.
According to CCTV Finance citing the US media "Business Insider", four Tesla employees have revealed that they all received a notice early on the 6th that their team will further lay off employees. In addition, several Tesla employees stated on the professional social media platform LinkedIn that they received layoff notices over the weekend.
The CEO of the company, Musk, announced for the first time on April 14th that Tesla will lay off more than 10% of its workforce due to the duplication of roles and job functions in certain areas. Prior to layoffs, Tesla employed over 140000 employees worldwide. According to Tesla, the company has laid off thousands of workers at its factories in California and Texas.
It is reported that Tesla's recent layoffs come at a time of slowing demand for its electric vehicles. According to Tesla's report, the company's electric vehicle delivery volume in April was lower than expected.
