Tesla, an electric vehicle manufacturer, revealed on Monday that federal prosecutors have issued subpoenas to the company requesting information on executive benefits, transactions with related parties, and decisions to hire or dismiss employees.
Tesla's quarterly report to investors confirms the investigation previously reported by The Wall Street Journal. According to a September report by the Wall Street Journal, the Manhattan Federal Prosecutor's Office is investigating potential personal benefits Tesla has provided to Elon Musk since 2017, including a proposed housing for the CEO.
Prosecutors are investigating whether Tesla used company resources on the housing project, which is known as Project 42 within Tesla. The plan requires the construction of a huge glass wall building near the factory and headquarters in the Austin area of Tesla.
Insiders said that prosecutors are still seeking information on transactions between Tesla and other entities related to the billionaire. Tesla's disclosure did not provide details on the benefits of government investigations, related party transactions, and personnel decisions.
