Amazon has announced that it will raise the hourly wage of its front-line operations staff in the UK to £11.80 ($14.39) to $12.50, with a further increase to £12.30- £13.00 per hour by April 2024. The increase depends on where workers live; Amazon plans to hire 15,000 seasonal workers. In response, the GMB Union said Amazon's pay rise would not make a "significant difference" to workers who were paid below the poverty line, had unsafe working conditions and had workplace monitoring.
