Ivan Rivas, secretary of the economy of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, said on October 5 that the final permit for Tesla to build an electric vehicle factory in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon could be ready in a few weeks. The local government is beginning infrastructure construction work in accordance with Tesla's request. Rivas said Tesla is considering building a larger factory than originally envisioned and is still finalizing design, architecture and engineering plans.
