According to the document released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2016, manufacturers of new energy vehicles should provide consumers with quality assurance for energy storage devices such as power batteries, drive motors, and motor controllers. Among them, passenger car manufacturers should provide a warranty period of no less than 8 years or 120000 kilometers.
Now, 8 years have passed, which means that a large number of new energy vehicles are about to face the situation of no warranty. Around this pain point issue. On March 14th, NIO took the lead in proposing the industry's first long-life battery solution. By utilizing the healthy operation of power batteries throughout their entire lifecycle and independent innovation in battery technology, NIO can achieve the technical and operational goals of using power batteries for 15 years and achieving 85% health.
Li Bin, founder and chairman of NIO, stated that battery life is not only a topic that NIO, a car company, needs to pay attention to and solve, but also an industry-specific issue that the entire industry needs to work together to solve. Only by solving the problem of battery life can China's new energy vehicle industry achieve long-term healthy and sustainable development, truly leading the global automotive industry transformation.
The issue of battery life cannot be ignored

According to public data, the cumulative insurance coverage of new energy vehicles in China has reached nearly 20 million since 2016. This means that a large number of new energy vehicle battery warranties will expire in 2024. According to relevant predictions, it is expected that nearly 20 million new energy vehicles will face battery warranty expiration by 2032.
But the reality is that the cycle life of batteries is often lower than the range that the entire vehicle can travel. For example, under normal circumstances, the entire vehicle can travel up to 1 million kilometers, but currently the battery cycle life in the industry can only reach 240000 kilometers.
Therefore, it is crucial to address the issue of short battery life in order to achieve further large-scale development of new energy vehicles. Zeng Shizhe, Vice President of NIO, believes that in order to achieve long lifespan of batteries, it is necessary to innovate the combination of battery research and operation.
It is reported that at the technical level, compared to five years ago, NIO's battery pack currently has higher safety, adopting a non thermal spread safety design, which can bring better thermal runaway management capabilities. Meanwhile, the all-weather temperature control system can further improve battery performance and extend battery life. In addition, NIO also adopts an end-to-end cloud fusion BMS, which can achieve precise control from battery cells to the system.
At the operational level, NIO's existing battery swapping station network integrates a multi-dimensional perception battery monitoring model, which can further monitor and guarantee battery performance. Zeng Shizhe revealed that for the battery swapping process, NIO has launched the first self-developed vehicle operation combined with battery pack maintenance algorithm in the industry. This means that NIO's products are also equivalent to "battery maintenance" during battery swapping.
Signed a heavyweight contract with Ningde Times

On the day of the event, NIO and CATL officially signed a contract for the long-term battery business.
NIO stated that by developing long-life batteries and combining them with its own charging and swapping network for refined operation, NIO can extend the service life of existing batteries, allowing NIO to further adjust its BaaS battery rental services and bring greater benefits to users.
After the signing was completed, NIO immediately announced the adjustment plan for BaaS battery rental services. After adjustment, purchasing a standard battery pack and using the BaaS method will result in a sudden reduction of 70000 yuan in car price and a monthly service fee of 728 yuan. Purchasing a long battery pack and using the BaaS method will result in a sudden reduction of 128000 yuan in car price and a monthly service fee of 1128 yuan. Prior to this, the service fees for the above two services were 980 yuan and 1680 yuan per month, respectively.
The second brand will be launched in mid to early May

Recently, photos of the first model of NIO's second brand were unexpectedly exposed. On March 14th, Qin Lihong, co-founder of NIO, officially responded, stating that NIO's second brand was named "Ledo" and its English name was "ONVO".
"The brand name of Ledao has been leaked and not officially released," Qin Lihong told Securities Times reporters, stating that the new brand will be officially released in mid to early May.
Regarding the positioning of the Ledo brand, Li Bin stated that the reason for naming the second brand "Ledo" is mainly because the brand serves the family car market and emphasizes the brand concept of "family happiness and proper management".
