On March 12th, according to Apple's official website, Apple will expand its applied research laboratory in China, enhance the capabilities of its Shanghai research center, and open a new applied research laboratory in Shenzhen later this year. Apple stated that this new laboratory will enhance its testing and research capabilities for products such as iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro.
Apple stated that the application research laboratory enables Apple to conduct user experience simulation experiments under various conditions and scenarios, from extreme temperatures to intense exercise, ensuring that the product can achieve optimal performance.
Secondly, the innovative solutions generated during this process have also enabled Apple to introduce new materials into its products, such as the titanium metal used in the iPhone 15 Pro, the introduction of new technologies such as Face ID, and the launch of new products such as the Apple Vision Pro.
In addition, years of analytical work in the laboratory have also helped Apple expand the use of recycled materials such as aluminum, tin, tungsten, and cobalt in key components, helping Apple achieve carbon neutrality goals throughout the entire supply chain and products by 2030.
According to official website information, Apple has invested over 1 billion yuan in its application research laboratory, and this investment will continue to grow with the addition of new facilities in Shenzhen.
"This expansion is a continuation of Apple's continuous investment in research and development in China." Apple stated that it currently has research and development centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shenzhen. In the past five years, Apple's R&D team in China has doubled in size, playing a crucial role in the development of features such as portrait lighting and night mode.
