Pilots at United Airlines Holdings (UAL) have approved a new contract that includes pay increases of up to 40% over the course of a four-year contract.
The Air Line Pilots Association union said the deal, which added $10.2 billion in pay increases, benefits and other improvements, was approved by 82 percent of pilots who voted.
As airlines face a rapid rebound in travel demand and a shortage of pilots, pilots' unions have made big gains in new contract negotiations. Airlines have been racing to hire and train more pilots to replace those who retired early during the pandemic and to prepare for the coming wave of retirements.
