Last Saturday, the Republican primary was held in South Carolina, USA. This election, which was highly anticipated by the only opponent in Trump's party, Haley, ultimately turned towards Trump.
Preliminary statistics show that Trump easily won the state primary. According to an export poll, almost all groups within the South Carolina Republican Party prefer Trump over Haley. This allowed Trump to maintain his winning streak in the primary process and paved the way for him to win the Republican nomination.
Haley, who previously served as the governor of South Carolina, vowed to continue participating in the March 5th Super Tuesday campaign after losing, in an attempt to make a final move in the fifteen state primaries held that day.
She emphasized that most Americans do not want to see a rematch between Trump and Biden, so she will not give up on this struggle. She also claimed that she ran for the presidency of the United States to save the country.
Trump, on the other hand, stated in his post election campaign in South Carolina that the victory came earlier than he expected and had a greater advantage than expected.
Trump has been singing and advancing all the way
James Hodges, President of consulting firm McGuireWoods, praised Haley as a very talented and energetic candidate. But the problem is that voters seem unwilling to consider candidates outside of Trump.
This also cast a shadow over Haley's future campaign. Observers point out that the supporters behind Haley may be disappointed, which will have a financial impact on her campaign.
But some observers also suggest that Haley is still running, partly to ensure that she can become a replacement for Trump when he has to withdraw due to legal challenges or unforeseen health issues. At the age of 77, Trump is currently facing four criminal court cases and up to 91 felony charges.
Trump also needs to remain vigilant about his legal issues, especially as more and more trials are scheduled to begin this spring, which could disrupt his campaign schedule and further deplete his financial resources. It is reported that Trump's campaign team has spent over $50 million on legal defense.
For Trump, winning this year's US election may be his only chance to escape legal trial. It is worth noting that the current US President Biden, the only opponent seen by Trump, is also in a difficult situation.
The 81 year old Biden not only faces health concerns from both inside and outside the government, but also is questioned because of a series of policies of the United States in dealing with the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Palestinian Israeli conflict in the past two years.
At present, neither Biden nor Trump has a chance to secure a victory, and this year's US election will continue to remain in suspense.
