The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on the 2nd local time that electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is recalling nearly 2.2 million vehicles in the country due to unsatisfactory brake, parking, and anti lock brake warning lights on the dashboard.
According to a document released by NHTSA on the 2nd, the reason for this recall is that the font of the brake, parking, and anti lock brake warning lights on the vehicle's dashboard is smaller than the requirements of federal safety standards. This may result in important safety information being difficult for drivers to detect, thereby increasing the risk of collisions.
This recall will be completed through online software updates, involving the 2012 to 2023 Model S, 2016 to 2023 Model X, 2017 to 2023 Model 3, 2019 to 2024 Model Y, and 2024 Cybertruck.
The document states that NHTSA discovered the issue during its routine safety and compliance review on January 8th. Tesla has confirmed three warranty claim cases that may be related to the issue, but there have been no reports of collisions or casualties.
In addition, according to a document released by NHTSA on the 1st, the US government's investigation into Tesla's steering issue has been upgraded to engineering analysis, which may affect nearly 335000 vehicles.
In December 2023, NHTSA said that Tesla would recall more than 2030000 electric vehicles in the United States due to the potential safety hazard of the auto drive system. (End)
