After three years of repeated tug and tug, representatives from 27 EU countries confirmed the final negotiated text of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) on Friday, marking that this key legislation has overcome the "last major obstacle". After today's approval, this bill has now returned to the European Parliament. According to the schedule, a sub committee of the European Parliament will vote on the adjusted bill in two weeks, and a general vote is expected to be held in March or April thereafter. Considering that the opposition so far has only been concentrated in a few member states, it is theoretically unlikely that there will be any surprises in the voting of the European Parliament. After completing all approval procedures, the bill will be published in the EU Gazette and will come into effect 20 days later.
