Rio Tinto plans to halve its direct emissions by 2030 and has reached an electricity supply agreement with one of Australia's largest solar projects to provide electricity for its energy intensive Gladstone aluminum project. Rio Tinto announced on January 24th that it will purchase all the electricity generated by the 1.1 gigawatt Upper Calliope solar power plant planned by European Energy in Queensland, Australia, for a period of 25 years.
