On October 19th, Cruise, General Motors, and Honda announced that they had signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing a joint venture to launch an autonomous car ride hailing service in Japan in early 2026. The joint venture is expected to be established in the first half of next year and is currently awaiting regulatory approval.
It is understood that the Cruise Origin, jointly developed by General Motors, Cruise, and Honda Motors, specifically designed for autonomous ride services, will pick up passengers at designated locations and deliver them to their destinations, all through autonomous driving. The customer will use a dedicated application on their smartphone to complete the entire process from calling to paying.
