Intel announced on Tuesday (January 9th) at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that it will launch its latest automotive artificial intelligence (AI) chip aimed at competing with Qualcomm and Nvidia.
Jack West, the head of Intel's automotive division, stated that Intel's new automotive chip system products will adopt the company's recently launched AI PC technology to meet the durability and performance requirements of automobiles.
According to West, Chinese automaker Zeekr will become the first car manufacturer to use Intel automotive AI chips. Zeekr will create an "enhanced living room experience" in cars, including artificial intelligence voice assistants and video conferencing.
In addition to Extreme Krypton, Intel is actively negotiating with multiple vehicle manufacturers.
In addition, Intel also stated that it will acquire French electric vehicle software startup Silicon Mobility, which designs on-chip system technology and software for controlling electric vehicle motors and in car charging systems. However, Intel did not disclose the price for the acquisition of this company.
Covering the entire product line of customers
As of now, Intel has provided chips for infotainment systems in 50 million cars, but NVIDIA and Qualcomm have an advantage in the chip market for autonomous driving technology, upgradable car system software, and complex dashboard displays.
During a pre exhibition conference call, West pointed out, "Intel has done a very poor job in promoting our achievements in the automotive industry, and we need to change that."
According to West, Intel will offer a variety of automotive chips, allowing car manufacturers to use them across their entire product line, covering a range from low-priced cars to high-end cars, making them more competitive.
At present, China's rapidly growing electric vehicle market has become the main battlefield for chip manufacturers, and Chinese automobile manufacturers are also competing for advanced infotainment systems and auto drive system.
Last year, Nvidia formed an alliance with MediaTek to provide lower cost chipsets. MediaTek mainly provides information and entertainment display technology based on Android systems for low-priced cars.
