On October 18th, Baltic News Agency (BNS) reported that the retail platform Ochama, registered by Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com in the Netherlands, is about to enter Lithuania.
The retailer announced that it will expand its home delivery service business to 19 countries in Europe: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Lithuania.
According to the local news website Verslo Zinios, the retailer started entering the European market a year and a half ago and has been conducting business in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. They already have a complete network of pick-up points in these countries and began providing next-day delivery services this month.
Lithuanian e-commerce expert Vytautas Vorobjovas said that in pursuit of growth, competition among major Chinese e-commerce retailers is becoming increasingly fierce, and they have strengthened their expansion in foreign markets such as Europe.
However, he stated that the entry of Chinese platforms into the Lithuanian market will not currently have an impact on local e-commerce platforms such as Pigu or Senukai.
