According to Securities Times on December 11th, the US Department of Energy recently announced that according to data from the US Internal Revenue Service as of December 7, 2023, two Tesla electric pickup truck Cybertruck models will qualify for a full federal electric vehicle tax credit of $7500: the all wheel drive version and the top three motor Cyberbear version. The rear wheel drive version of Cybertruck is currently not on the list, and delivery of the model is expected to begin in 2025, so its discount situation still needs to be clarified.
However, there is a key condition for receiving subsidies, which is that the selling price of pickup trucks must not exceed $80000 (currently around 574000 RMB). According to Tesla's official website, the starting price of the Cyberstick Cyberbear currently launched is $99990 (approximately RMB 713000), which clearly exceeds the limit. In theory, the Cybertruck all wheel drive version priced at $79990 should meet the requirements, but its delivery time is expected to be in 2024, which means it may not be eligible for tax credits this year.
However, the above information may only apply to the coming weeks. In January 2024, a new electric vehicle tax credit policy will come into effect, which includes new regulations on the source of battery materials. At that time, the entire US electric vehicle tax credit system will also change. It remains to be seen whether Cybertruck and other electric vehicles can receive full subsidies.
Tesla held a Cybertruck delivery event at 4am Beijing time on December 1st and revealed relevant information about this pure electric pickup truck. The entire delivery event took approximately 25 minutes, making it one of the shortest events in Tesla's history.
According to Tesla's official website in the United States, this model is available in three versions: rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. The starting prices for the Cyberbeat version are $60990 (approximately RMB 435000), $79990 (approximately RMB 570000), and $99990 (approximately RMB 713000), respectively. It is reported that in Beast mode, the acceleration from 100 kilometers per hour only takes 2.7 seconds; A single charge can travel up to 547 kilometers. The all wheel drive and Cyberbear versions will be delivered in 2024, while the rear wheel drive version will be delivered in 2025. After delivery, it will be sold in North America, and there is currently no news on the domestic market launch time.
In this delivery event, Musk also showcased the bulletproof function of Cybertruck, praising that with Cybertruck, there is no need to be afraid of the Mafia's submachine gun firing.
One of the biggest highlights of Cybertruck is its incredible strength, durability, and adaptability to any terrain. Tesla claims to be able to travel on any planet's surface.
According to China Newsweek on December 9th, citing third-party data, Cybertruck has now received over 2 million orders worldwide. Based on its estimated annual production capacity of 250000 vehicles, if all scheduled orders are delivered, Cybertruck's order volume will be in 8 years.
However, Musk's expectations for Cybertrick were quite calm. At Tesla's Q3 2023 financial report meeting, Musk bluntly stated that Tesla's development of the Cybertruck was self digging, believing that it would take a long time to make money on this car.
"To achieve mass production of Cybertruck and achieve positive cash flow at a price that people can afford, we need to do a lot of work. I just want to lower people's expectations of Cybertruck. This is a great product, but from a financial perspective, it will take another year to 18 months to become a significant contributor to positive cash flow," Musk said.
Data shows that a total of 2.73 million pickup trucks were sold in the US market in 2022, accounting for 55% of global pickup truck sales. The three best-selling cars among them are the Ford F-series, Chevrolet Silverado, and General Motors RAM P/U, with a total sales of over 1.6 million units. Gary Blake, co-founder and managing partner of Future Fund, stated that pickup trucks hold a 20% share of the US automotive market, and Tesla's future sales will significantly increase with the launch of Cybertruck, a Cybertruck. He expects Tesla's sales to increase by 53% in 2024.
As of last Friday's close, Tesla (TSLA) closed up 0.49% at $243.84, with a total market value of $775.1 billion.
