On Tuesday local time, a letter document appeared on the official website of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, disclosing for the first time the details of the financing scale of Musk's xAI.

As a former co-founder of OpenAI and now an active critic, Musk also registered xAI company when he renamed Twitter to X Company in April this year. Although Musk is the world's richest man, the financial situation of this AI company has always been a mystery.
In a post on November 19th, Musk mentioned that investors in X company would own 25% of xAI equity.
This Tuesday's regulatory documents have revealed a little more about the financing situation of xAI. According to regulatory documents, xAI is in the process of raising up to $1 billion, of which $134 million has already been completed.
It is worth mentioning that there is also a note in the document indicating that "for the portion to be sold, the issuer has signed a binding and enforceable agreement.". This means that xAI may have already achieved its financing target of $1 billion.
XAI has entered the commercialization track
Backed by X platform with over 200 million daily active users, although xAI's R&D team just made its debut in July this year, their first AI product, the Grok chatbot, which benchmarks against ChatGPT, has reached the edge of commercialization.
According to a previous report by Caixin, the xAI team released the Grok robot and Grok-1 language model in early November.
It is reported that after Musk's AI team was established in July, it took one month to develop the Grok-0 big language model, and then two months to iterate to Grok-1. Through multiple large-scale language model tests, it has been shown that Grok-1 has been able to steadily outperform the Meta open-source large model LLaMa 2 in multiple tests, and there is still a significant gap from GPT-4.
It is reported that although Grok is not as capable as ChatGPT in many aspects, this robot also has its own unique advantage: it can obtain real-time understanding of the world by accessing massive data on the X platform.
The Grok robot is currently only an additional feature for X platform Premium+members, and the monthly fee for this service is $16 (or $168 per year). Musk also stated over the weekend that he will open the use rights of Grok robots to Premium+members in the following week in subscription order. Musk also mentioned last month that Grok will develop a separate app in the future.
