Amazon confirmed on November 17th that as part of its massive spending tightening plan since last year, the company has started laying off hundreds of employees in its Alexa voice assistant department.
Daniel Rausch, Amazon Vice President in charge of Alexa and Fire TV, stated in a memo to employees that the department is "shifting some of its work to better align with our business priorities and what we know is most important to our customers, including maximizing the utilization of our resources and efforts around generative artificial intelligence. Lausch stated that these changes led to the termination of some measures by the Alexa department, resulting in the reduction of hundreds of positions.
