A source familiar with the preparations told Agence France Presse on Monday (November 6th) that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi is expected to attend a summit in the Saudi capital on Sunday to discuss the issue of the war between Israel and Hamas.
This will be Lech's first visit to the Gulf Kingdom since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries, seven years after they announced their severance under China's mediation in March.
This summit is hosted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is composed of 57 countries with a majority adult Muslim population and is headquartered in the coastal city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting is scheduled to take place one day after the Arab League leaders held an emergency meeting on war issues, with both meetings taking place in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
A source familiar with the summit plan told Agence France Presse: "President Lech will attend the Islamic Cooperation Organization summit in Riyadh." As they are not authorized to discuss the plan with the media, they do not want to be named.
The Islamic Cooperation Organization has repeatedly publicly opposed attacks against civilians in Gaza. Israel is attempting to eliminate Hamas in Gaza in response to the attack by the radical organization on October 7th. Israeli officials stated that the attack resulted in more than 1400 deaths, most of whom were civilians, and 240 people were taken hostage.
After nearly a month of merciless bombing by Israel, the health department managed by Hamas stated on Monday that the death toll in Gaza has exceeded 10000, including over 4000 children.
Lehi and Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, had their first phone call on October 12th, during which both expressed support for the Palestinian cause. According to IRNA, the Iranian national news agency, they discussed the necessity of ending war crimes against Palestine.
Both countries do not recognize Israel, although before the war, Saudi Arabia participated in discussions mediated by the United States regarding possible normalization.
Iran has long provided financial and military support to Hamas.
Saudi officials are deeply concerned that the war may escalate, which could undermine Salman's comprehensive "2030 Vision" reform agenda aimed at freeing the world's largest crude oil exporter from fossil fuels.
