Washington, December 9th (Xinhua) -- The suspect in the shooting of Thompson, the CEO of United Health Insurance Company, a subsidiary of United Health Group, was arrested in Pennsylvania on the 9th.
The suspect, named Luigi Mangone, is 26 years old and was arrested on the same day while dining at a McDonald's in Altona, Pennsylvania. At the time of arrest, Manzoni was in possession of multiple fake identification documents and a 3D printed handgun with a silencer.
CNN quoted a police officer as saying that at the time of his arrest, Mangone was also in possession of a document condemning the US healthcare insurance industry.
Later that day, Mangone appeared in court for the first time in Holliday, Pennsylvania and was ordered to be detained without bail. The criminal indictment shows that he faces five charges, including serious crimes such as forgery and carrying firearms without a license.
Thompson was shot and killed outside a hotel in Manhattan, New York City on the morning of the 4th local time. A masked gunman waited outside the hotel and fired several shots at Thompson upon his arrival before fleeing the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation by the police, this was a targeted attack.
Thompson, who is 50 years old, joined United Health Group in 2004 and became the CEO of United Health Insurance Company in April 2021. United Health Group ranks eighth among the Fortune Global 500 companies in 2024.
