On November 25th local time, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry stated that Apple's proposed $100 million investment plan is not enough to lift the country's ban on iPhone 16 sales.
Indonesian Industry Minister Agus stated at a press conference, "We have assessed that Apple's proposal does not comply with the principle of fairness." He compared this proposal to Apple's larger investments in Vietnam and Thailand.
Agus stated that Apple has unfulfilled investment commitments of $10 million, which should have been fulfilled before 2023. He also hopes that Apple will commit to making new investments before 2026. Agus stated that the department will invite Apple to visit Indonesia for further negotiations.
The Indonesian government previously announced a ban on the sale of iPhone 16 in the country, stating that Apple has not fulfilled its investment commitments in Indonesia. Afterwards, Apple submitted a proposal to the Indonesian government, planning to invest nearly $10 million to collaborate with suppliers to build a factory in Bandung, producing accessories and components for Apple gadgets. Recently, Apple has increased its investment commitment in Indonesia by nearly tenfold, seeking to invest nearly $100 million in the country within two years.
