Today, Tesla and Elon Musk released promotional posters on Weibo, announcing the launch of a new product on October 11th in Los Angeles, USA. The theme slogan for the event is "We, Robot".
Musk declared even more loudly that 'this will go down in history'.
The Verge, Electrek and other media outlets pointed out that this poster image is an invitation letter for the Robotaxi (autonomous taxi) launch event sent to some institutions - Tesla will hold the "Cybercab" unveiling event on October 10th local time (October 11th Beijing time) and officially launch Robotaxi.
According to previous reports, the Robotaxi launch event will be held at Warner Bros. Discovery's studio in Hollywood, and will begin at 7 pm local time. Musk has stated that this will be the most important day for Tesla since the release of the Model 3.
According to multiple media outlets including TorqueNews, Robotaxi, as a carrier of autonomous driving technology, may eliminate the steering wheel and pedals internally, and the rear seats will be equipped with front and rear facing seats and screens. In terms of appearance design, it may resemble a Cybertruck. In addition, a person claiming to be a Warner Bros. film set employee recently posted a spy photo of a suspected Tesla Robotaxi, which was tightly wrapped in yellow material.
In terms of operation and user experience, Musk had previously estimated that the single mile cost of Robotaxi was only $0.18, while the cost of a manned taxi was $2-3 per mile. Debon Securities stated that high cost-effectiveness is Robotaxi's core competitiveness. However, Electrek expects to operate on a small scale, where users will use Tesla's developed app to summon vehicles.
In addition to autonomous driving, Electrek expects to see the latest version of Optimus Optimus Prime robot at this press conference. There is speculation that based on the theme of the "We, Robot" poster, Tesla may release more than one product this time, and besides Robotaxi, the Optimal Gen3 may also be expected to appear.
In fact, from the camera in the background of the poster released this time, it is not difficult to associate the commonality between Robotaxi and Optimal products - both are equipped with cameras with built-in FSD chips as the technical foundation, relying on end-to-end AI models supported by pure visual routes and algorithm computing power. As Musk once said, "Tesla can be said to be the world's largest robotics company, and our cars can be considered semi sensory robots with wheels.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that Tesla's artificial intelligence team announced on social media earlier this month that they expect to launch the FSD system in China and Europe in the first quarter of 2025, but regulatory approval is still pending.
