The test results of the first 8 models of C-IASI from China Insurance Research Institute in 2024 were recently released. In this test, implementing stricter new regulations makes it more difficult to achieve good results. Including MEGA and Ideal L6, three models achieved G+/G+/G+/A.
What are the difficulties in achieving good results in collision safety? Recently, Ideal Automobile held a safety driving academy and provided its answer.
No matter how much emphasis is placed on safety, it cannot be overemphasized
Frontal small offset collision is a common situation in daily life, with a speed of 64.4 kilometers per hour and a time interval of only 100 milliseconds from collision to maximum deformation. At the same time, within 15 milliseconds after the collision occurs, the airbag must complete detonation; Within 40 milliseconds, the high-voltage system completes the power outage; Within 150 milliseconds, the car door will be unlocked. In less than 0.2 seconds, in addition to the body structure that needs to withstand huge collision impacts, all other safety systems also need to work simultaneously, and no errors are allowed in any link.
It is not difficult to see from this that the collision safety design of vehicles is the ultimate optimization of time and space, and its difficulty is so high that it is not feasible to rely solely on body stacking or repeated collision tests without seeking a deep understanding. Behind the high cost of R&D investment, enterprises need to continue investing and patiently accumulate technology. This time at the Safe Driving Academy, Ideal Auto showcased the efforts of its models in the field of safety, such as the standard fortress safety body and 9 airbags across all models.
Safety is not divided into zones, and every row of family members should be protected
The "Fortress Safety Body" is a defensive body structure developed by Ideal Automotive, which was previously applied to three models of the L series and is now also promoted to the MEGA and L.
The cage style body structure, combined with a large amount of high-strength yet lightweight materials and innovative production processes, provides protection for every row of family members, including the third row. In response to the rear end collision risk that household users are most concerned about, Ideal MEGA uses a Japanese shaped extruded aluminum with an average thickness of 2.7mm at the rear anti-collision beam position, combined with a rear energy absorbing box and a large-sized four grid rear longitudinal beam, to form a circular energy absorbing frame structure. At the same time, in order to reserve more collapse space for rear collisions, the distance between the rear anti-collision beam of the ideal MEGA and the rear end of the third row seats reaches 80 centimeters, leaving sufficient energy absorption and buffering space.
Even with meticulous protection, an ideal car should be adequately prepared for rescue after a collision. Ideal MEGA has changed the conventional U-shaped lock design to an irregular lock, and upgraded the material to imported 304 stainless steel. Not only has the toughness been improved, but the bearing capacity has also increased from 22kN to 37kN.
At the same time, the R&D team of Ideal Automobile has also made targeted improvements to the sliding door design in the body structure, especially in the positions of the two sliding rail boxes above and below the B-pillar. The application of hot formed steel and high-strength steel materials on the upper and lower edges of the upper slide box effectively enhances the structural strength.
At the moment of collision, it is necessary to quickly cut off the high-voltage power and ensure that the car doors are unlocked in a timely manner. To solve this contradiction, during the engineering design phase of Ideal Automobile, engineers avoided high-speed collision zones for power and control circuits, and placed small batteries under the armrest box.
Security configuration is not optional, only standard
In the event of a collision, if the top-level body safety structure is the first line of defense for family safety, then the second line is the passenger protection system inside the car, among which the most important is the airbag. The 5 models of Ideal Auto on sale are equipped with 9 airbags as standard across the entire range. Ideal Automobile believes that airbags should not be used as a configuration to classify vehicle levels, and regardless of the price, airbags should be fully equipped at the highest level.
The ideal car comes standard with 9 airbags across the entire range, including remote airbags that many BBA models cannot be equipped with even with extra money. When analyzing actual accident cases, engineers found that in accident scenarios such as side collisions and rollovers, there is a high risk of the front passengers' bodies tilting significantly, causing them to collide with each other's heads or even hit the interior parts on the other side. In order to provide sufficient cushioning protection for family members in these accident scenarios, Ideal Car has installed a remote airbag on the inner side of the driver's seat backrest, which can provide effective cushioning between the two front seats after a collision.
It is worth mentioning that the remote airbags standard on all models of the Ideal series are designed with dual chambers, which significantly improves the protection compared to single chamber airbags. According to the test results released by E-NCAP, a total of 138 vehicle models participated in side impact testing between 2020 and 2024. More than 60% of vehicles equipped with single chamber remote airbags can receive full marks, while vehicles equipped with dual chamber remote airbags have a full mark rate of up to 97%.
